Dave advises clients in complex tax, business succession, and estate planning matters. By combining his deep understanding of the law with his ability to provide considerate, personalized counsel, Dave is uniquely qualified in these complex areas. His clients include high net worth individuals, business owners, land owners, and professionals.
His extensive experience includes developing practical strategies to manage assets, minimize estate and gift taxes, and provide for an effective plan of transferring assets from one generation to the next using wills, trusts, and family entities.
Dave further serves families by structuring marital agreements, advising estate and trust fiduciaries, developing strategies for asset protection and charitable giving, as well as conservation easements that preserve properties and yield tax benefits. He advises family-owned and closely-held businesses in developing plans for succession with buy-sell agreements, entity reorganizations, and intra-family agreements and transactions.
Dave has served as president of the Columbia Estate Planning Council and as chairman of other professional organizations including the Estate Planning and Probate Specialization Advisory Board, the South Carolina Bar Tax Section, and the South Carolina Supreme Court’s Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization. He currently serves as a member of the board of trustees of The Congaree Land Trust and the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School Foundation. He is a former senior warden of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, a former chairman of the board of trustees of the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, Trinity Cathedral Foundation, and a former member of the board of trustees of Providence Hospitals.
